Who is JEHOVAH and who are His Witnesses?

His witnesses:

"You are my witnesses, says the Lord, that I am God." – Isaiah 43:1

This name is determined by God: "Then the nations will see your salvation, and all kings your glory, and they will call you by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will determine." – Isaiah 62:2

Jehovah has called those who chose to follow Him and testify about Him - “witnesses”, starting with Abel, the first faithful man on Earth. Hebrews 11 lists a multitude of faithful people, whom Hebrews 12:1 then calls "a great cloud of witnesses.

The Lord Jesus Christ was a witness: “And from Jesus Christ, the faithful Witness, the Firstborn from the dead, the Ruler of the kings of the earth!” – Revelation 1:5, and His disciples: "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." – Acts 1:8

The people must bear His Name: "God has looked upon the Gentiles to take out of them a people for His Name." – Acts 15:14

Today, we are urged to follow in their footsteps: "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ." – 1 Corinthians 11:1

Therefore, the name “Jehovah’s Witnesses” is not the name of a religion or sect, but reflects a person’s choice to dedicate his life to Jehovah and His grand purpose, to accept the sacrifice and way shown by Jesus, and to witness these truths to others, calling them to repentance.

Jehovah is:

The name of the Almighty God: "I am Jehovah, that is My name." – Isaiah 42:8

The only true God: "For I am God, and there is no other; I am Jehovah, and there is none like Me." – Isaiah 46:9.

The Creator of the entire universe: "For this is what the Lord says — He who created the heavens, the only God, who formed the earth and made it, who established it and did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited—‘I am the Lord, and there is no other!’" – Isaiah 45:18.

Without beginning or end: "The only one who has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen." – 1 Timothy 6:16.

Eternal: "Before the mountains were born or the earth and the world were formed, from everlasting to everlasting, you are God!" – Psalm 90:2.

In the Lord's Prayer, Jesus urges us to hallow His Name: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name;" – Matthew 6:9.

Jesus, when He was on earth, says in John 17:6: "I have made Your name known to the people whom You gave Me out of the world. They were Yours, and You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word."

His people know His Name: "”Because he loves Me,” says the Lord, “I will deliver him; I will protect him, for he knows My Name.”" – Psalm 91:14.
